Becoming an Athlete
There are TWO steps: Register & Sign-Up
Step 1 – Register
Be registered with Special Olympics South Dakota (SOSD)
A valid Athlete Registration Form, which includes a medical history and a doctor signed physical.
Complete the Athlete Eligibility Verification form unless you are signed up by a Service Provider (such as LifeScape, SEBH, etc.)
These forms should be completed as soon as you decide to become involved in SO. But that must be turned in before the athletes participates in his first practice.
Forms can be submitted 1 of 3 ways:

Form can be brought to first practice and handed into the coach
Four times a year, the Fireworks will announce Sign Up for a particular season or sport via email. To be added to our email list, Click Here. Email is our main form of communication, but we can also mail a postcard to the athlete with the information, if requested.
The Sign Up email or post card will let you know how to sign up. Please be aware that we allow two weeks for the athletes to get signed up. There is always a deadline and you must meet this deadline or the athlete will not get to participate.

Code of Conduct
Special Olympics is committed to the highest ideals of sport and expects all athletes to honor sports and Special Olympics. All Special Olympics athletes and Unified Sports® Partners agree to follow the Athlete Code of Conduct.
It is a privilege to participate in Special Olympics and not a right. If athletes do not obey this Code of Conduct, they can be subjected to a range of consequences by the Fireworks or SOSD including not being allowed to participate.
Eligibility
To be eligible to participate in Sioux Falls Fireworks – Special Olympics (SO), potential athletes must:
- Be identified as having an intellectual disability or a closely related developmental disability verified by the athlete’s teacher or medical doctor.
- Be 8 years of age or older.
- Be registered with SOSD State Office
- Complete mandatory training
